The teaching
The introduction began from difference: each person has a different body, mind and set of troubles, so — in Krishnamacharya’s words as the site gave them — “the individual should not be adapted to the yoga; the yoga should be adapted to the individual.” The teaching page described him as yogi, healer, Vedic scholar and philosopher who drew on ancient knowledge to make yoga practical for daily life, taught each student according to their constitution rather than a standard sequence, and was called “the master of masters”.
The association
“Our work” described HYJ as an association set up to carry Krishnamacharya’s teaching to Japan. Yoga, it explained, means “to connect” — not a repeated series of poses but learning to deepen one’s relationships: with oneself, family, friends and the world. The teaching, it said, had “not yet permeated the world”; HYJ organised workshops, supported related activities, and acted as the foundation’s base in Japan.
KHYF
The site introduced the Krishnamacharya Healing & Yoga Foundation as an organisation offering internationally recognised yoga qualifications in four levels — Yoga Teacher, Teacher Trainer, Yoga Therapist and Yoga Therapist Trainer — with the first level alone requiring over 500 hours of study in āsana, prāṇāyāma, meditation and philosophy. In 2008 HYJ announced the first KHYF-certified teacher training in Japan, a weekend course for twenty, with a weekday cohort to follow if demand exceeded places.
Workshops
The first workshop the archive records was a two-day seminar on yoga across the stages of a woman’s life — adolescence, motherhood, menopause — taught by visiting teachers from the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai, including Menaka Desikachar and a senior yoga-therapy consultant with a Western medical background, near Nihon-Ōdōri station in Yokohama. All proceeds were donated to the Mandiram, a non-profit yoga-healing centre. Later pages announced workshops in 2009 and 2011.
The teachers
A teachers page described two instructors in their own words: one who had come to yoga while living in New York, studied at the Mandiram directly with T.K.V. Desikachar and Kausthub Desikachar, travelled to India several times a year and held teacher-trainer certification; the other who had studied with many teachers in Japan and the United States before finding Krishnamacharya’s teaching and continuing to study in India. Their names and contact details are not reproduced here. The old /introduction/, /osie/, /workshop/, /teacher.html and teacher-training addresses redirect to this page.
