The claim
“Studio Jyoti is the first yoga studio in Japan where you can study the teaching of Krishnamacharya.” Its staff, the about page said, had studied for years directly under T.K.V. Desikachar, Krishnamacharya’s son, and taught yoga that was “effective and gentle on the body” with careful instruction.
The room
The studio stood in a quiet residential part of Kugenuma, Fujisawa, in the Shōnan area, easy to reach from Tokyo. The practice room looked onto a large garden; its walls were plaster, the floor natural teak laid over binchōtan charcoal, with underfloor heating for the colder months — a space, the site said, where you could practise without reservation.
The classes
Small group classes in three courses, private classes, and Vedic chanting, with a monthly schedule and bookings by e-mail or phone. The 2007 homepage carried a seasonal letter from the studio about the stillness of early winter, and the hope that yoga could give people time to look again at how they spend their days. The phone number, e-mail address and the letter’s signature are not reproduced.
What became of it
The /jyoti/ pages were last captured in January 2010. The archive does not record whether the studio closed, moved or simply took its pages elsewhere, and this site makes no claim either way. The old /jyoti/ and /school.html addresses redirect here.
